Houthoff was formed in 1970 when three existing Amsterdam law firms merged, creating what was then the largest firm in Amsterdam and in the Netherlands. The firm takes its name from one of the founding lawyers, H.L. Houthoff. It has since grown into an independent, full-service firm advising national and international clients.Houthoff ontstond in 1970 door de fusie van drie bestaande Amsterdamse advocatenkantoren, waarmee destijds het grootste kantoor van Amsterdam en van Nederland ontstond. Het kantoor is vernoemd naar een van de oprichtende advocaten, H.L. Houthoff. Het groeide sindsdien uit tot een onafhankelijk full-service kantoor dat nationale en internationale clienten adviseert.
