MUFG chose Amsterdam in 2017 as the location for its new EU banking subsidiary, MUFG Bank (Europe) N.V., in order to keep serving EU clients after the United Kingdom left the European Union and the bank could no longer rely on passporting rights from London. Amsterdam now functions as the hub in MUFG's European hub-and-spoke model, handling capital, risk management, regulatory reporting and back-office processing for its European branch network.
