What NIBC Bank doesWat NIBC Bank doet
NIBC Bank was founded in 1945 by the Dutch government and a group of commercial banks and institutional investors, originally to help finance the country's post-war economic recovery. Over the decades it evolved into a corporate and merchant bank, with activities in corporate lending, savings, mortgages and financing for sectors such as commercial real estate and infrastructure. NIBC was listed on Euronext Amsterdam in 2018 before being acquired by private equity firm Blackstone in 2020. In late 2025, ABN AMRO agreed to acquire NIBC from Blackstone, a deal expected to complete during the course of 2026.NIBC Bank werd in 1945 opgericht door de Nederlandse overheid samen met een groep handelsbanken en institutionele beleggers, oorspronkelijk om de naoorlogse economische wederopbouw van Nederland te financieren. In de loop der decennia ontwikkelde de bank zich tot een corporate en merchant bank, met activiteiten in zakelijke kredietverlening, sparen, hypotheken en financiering voor sectoren als commercieel vastgoed en infrastructuur. NIBC ging in 2018 naar de beurs op Euronext Amsterdam, voordat private-equityhuis Blackstone de bank in 2020 overnam. Eind 2025 kwam ABN AMRO een overname van NIBC van Blackstone overeen, een deal die naar verwachting in de loop van 2026 wordt afgerond.
