What Cardano does

Cardano is a fiduciary manager and investment risk specialist founded in the Netherlands around 2000, known in particular for its work on liability-driven investment for pension funds and insurers. In 2022 Cardano acquired the Dutch sustainable asset manager ACTIAM, and in 2023 the combined business was brought together under the single Cardano name, with ACTIAM's investment funds, processes and teams continuing under the Cardano brand. In November 2024 Cardano was itself acquired by Mercer, part of the global professional services firm Marsh McLennan, and now operates as part of Mercer's investment business in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. It advises and manages assets for pension funds, insurers and other institutional clients, with a particular focus on risk management, liability-driven investing and sustainable and impact investing.

Cardano in the Netherlands

Cardano's Dutch office is in Rotterdam, and the firm is one of the more specialised names in the Dutch pension and fiduciary management landscape. For students it is a route into risk-focused investment work, distinct from traditional stock-picking asset management.

Divisions and where you work

The firm combines investment and risk management teams, a fiduciary management practice that works directly with pension fund and insurer clients, and the former ACTIAM investment fund range covering sustainable equities, bonds and impact strategies. Graduates typically start as an analyst in risk management, fiduciary management or one of the investment teams.

How students start here

Cardano hires interns and graduates into analyst roles within risk management, fiduciary management and investment teams. Quantitative and finance-related degrees are common, and since the Mercer acquisition entrants also have access to Mercer's broader graduate infrastructure.
