The organisation
What Goldman Sachs does
Goldman Sachs is a global investment bank and financial services firm headquartered in New York. Founded in 1869, it grew from a commercial paper business into one of the world's largest players in investment banking, securities trading, asset management and wealth management. The firm advises corporations, governments and institutions on mergers, capital raising and financing, and its trading and asset management arms serve clients worldwide. Goldman Sachs is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Goldman Sachs in the Netherlands
Goldman Sachs has long had a presence in Amsterdam for its banking and markets business, but its most significant Dutch footprint came in 2022, when it completed the acquisition of NN Investment Partners, the asset manager based in The Hague that had grown out of Dutch insurer NN Group. That business was integrated into Goldman Sachs Asset Management, making The Hague an important European location for the firm and a centre of expertise in sustainable investing within public markets. For finance students, this means Goldman Sachs offers both classic investment banking exposure through its Amsterdam office and asset management roles through the former NN IP operation in The Hague.
Structure
Divisions and where you work
In the Netherlands, Goldman Sachs operates through two distinct strands: the Amsterdam office, which covers investment banking coverage, markets and related client-facing work, and the Goldman Sachs Asset Management organisation in The Hague, which manages public and private market strategies including fixed income, equities and sustainability-focused mandates. Finance graduates typically join either through banking and markets functions or through portfolio management, research and client-facing roles within asset management.
