What KKR does
KKR is a global investment firm founded in New York in 1976 by Jerome Kohlberg and cousins Henry Kravis and George Roberts, who had previously worked together in finance. It is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the leveraged buyout, and has since grown into a diversified alternative asset manager active in private equity, credit, infrastructure and real assets, listed on the stock exchange. KKR invests in companies across a wide range of industries and regions, typically taking significant or controlling stakes and working with management over a multi-year holding period. It operates through a global network of offices, including one in Amsterdam.

KKR in the Netherlands
KKR's Amsterdam office is part of its European network and houses a local deal team covering the Netherlands and surrounding markets. As with the other large global buyout firms, this should be understood as a compact, senior team rather than a major local employer. It gives Dutch-based candidates access to a well-known global private equity brand, but through a small number of highly competitive roles.
Structure
Divisions and where you work
KKR is organised around asset classes and strategies, such as private equity, credit, infrastructure and real estate, with sector and regional teams operating within each. Local offices like Amsterdam host deal professionals who source and execute transactions in their market, working alongside colleagues in larger hubs such as London. Analysts and associates typically sit within one of these deal teams, reporting up through regional and global investment leadership.
Getting in
How students start here
KKR runs student and graduate programmes in some of its larger offices, but roles based in Amsterdam are limited and highly competitive. As at other mega-funds, most analysts and associates arrive with prior experience from investment banking or consulting rather than joining straight after a bachelor's or master's degree, though internships offer an entry point for strong candidates.
