What Rabobank does

Rabobank is a Dutch cooperative bank that grew out of local farmers' credit cooperatives founded in the late 19th century. Two central organisations, the Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Bank and the Coöperatieve Centrale Boerenleenbank, merged in 1972 to form what became known as Rabobank. Unlike most large banks, Rabobank is not listed on the stock exchange: it is owned by its network of local member banks rather than shareholders. Today it is one of the Netherlands' three large banks, with a strong position in retail banking, food and agribusiness financing, and corporate and wholesale banking. It also has an international network focused on food and agri clients.

Rabobank's head office is in Utrecht, and the bank is one of the largest financial employers in the country, with a nationwide network of local banks alongside its central organisation. For finance students, the most relevant roles sit within wholesale banking, corporate clients, risk and treasury, as well as the bank's well-known food and agribusiness research and advisory teams.

Divisions and where you work

Rabobank is organised around Domestic Retail Banking, serving individuals and businesses through its local bank network, and Wholesale & Rural, which covers corporate banking, trade and commodity finance, and international food and agri clients. Group functions such as risk, finance and treasury operate across the organisation.
