The organisation
What Susquehanna International Group (SIG) does
Susquehanna International Group, generally known as SIG, is a quantitative trading and market-making firm founded in 1987 near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by a group of friends with backgrounds in options trading and, notably, poker and game theory, which shaped its early approach to pricing risk under uncertainty. SIG is best known for options market making, but it also trades equities, fixed income and other asset classes, and has expanded into related activities such as venture capital investing. It operates as a private partnership rather than a publicly listed company. Over time SIG built out a network of offices across the Americas, Asia and Europe, including Amsterdam, to trade closer to local markets and exchange hours.

Susquehanna International Group (SIG) in the Netherlands
SIG is a US partnership headquartered near Philadelphia, and Amsterdam is one of its European trading offices, part of a wider European network that also includes other cities. Its presence in Amsterdam is another example of a foreign trading firm setting up in the city because of its concentration of trading talent that traces back to the historic options exchange floor and the Dutch prop trading firms it produced, such as Optiver and IMC. For students, the Amsterdam office is where SIG's European options and equities trading and research work is largely based.
Structure
Divisions and where you work
SIG's work centres on trading (pricing and managing risk in options and other products), quantitative research (developing pricing models and strategies) and technology (building the systems that support trading at scale). Graduates typically join as traders, quantitative researchers or software developers.
Getting in
How students start here
SIG recruits in Amsterdam through internships and graduate programmes for trading, research and technology roles. Its selection process is known for probability and game-theory-based assessments in addition to standard quantitative testing, so strong logical and numerical reasoning matters more than a specific degree.
